Step 1: Place Your Wig On The Wig Stand
Start by placing your wig on a wig stand. We recommend one made of cork and canvas. Ideally, you can secure the wig stand to the table. By placing your wig on the wig stand, your hands will be free to hold the comb and other products. Secure the wig with T-pins to prevent the wig from falling out of the mannequin's head during the detangling process.
Step 2: Separate The Hair Into Sections
As a general guideline, divide the wig into four or more equal sections - separate the wig with your fingers from the front to the back and then from ear to ear. There are four areas here. If you find four sections insufficient, feel free to create more cells.
Step 3: Spray The Tangle Removal Product On Your Hair
Spray a detangling spray into your wig. This spray will make the hair slippery, so when you remove the tangles, they can easily slide over each other.
The easiest way to make your dangler is to combine four parts water with 1 part conditioner in a spray bottle. Shake the mixture thoroughly, then spray it on your hair. Spray enough cleanser to saturate the hair thoroughly.
Step 4: Detangle The Worst Of the Tangles With Your Fingers
Larger knots should be removed by hand, at least partially. You can feel and remove tangles better with your hands than with a comb. Go part by part, so you don't get weighed down by the knots. If your wig has a tangle, you can't remove with your detangling spray and your hands, feel free to spray water and conditioner downward to saturate the knot. Then use your fingers to move it out of the way.
Step 5: Use A Wide-tooth Comb to Detangle Your Hair
Use a wide-tooth comb through one of the sections from the top to the root. Once the ends are free of tangles, move up to the middle length and then to the roots. Combing from root to tip can cause unwanted pulling and hair breakage.
Continue to the next step and repeat these steps. Stop combing when the comb glides freely through the hair.
Once most of the tangles are gone, use your wig brush to smooth the hair further. If you've already smoothed your hair with your wide-tooth comb, you can brush it from the roots to the ends of your hair.
Step 6: Wash and Deep Condition Your Wig
If you have to use a lot of conditioner or cleanser, you may need to wash and condition your wig to restore its body and shine. This is especially important for straight wigs. If you skip the washing step, your wig will look soft and oily after styling. For curly wigs, a quick rinse may be just what you need.
Step 7: Dry Your Wig
Air dry your wig: The gentlest way to dry your wig is to put it in your wig stand and let it dry in the open air. This means not putting it in an enclosed space, like a small closet. Your wig will be dry within a day. If you want to speed up the drying process, you can gently pat away the excess water with a microfiber towel and then place it on the wig stand.
Blow-dry your wig: When you're in a hurry, it's convenient to blow dry your wig. You can hold the wig in your hand, wear it on the mannequin's head, and use a hair dryer to blow dry it while combing your hair with a wig brush. Be careful not to tug too hard on your hair, or you will rip it out. We recommend that you use a hair dryer in the "cool" setting to maintain the quality of your hair.
